The spring season is here, meaning the majority of the population is now suffering from allergies. Allergies are diseases of the immune system that cause an overreaction to substances called "allergens." Allergies are assembled by the kind of trigger, time of year or where symptoms appear on the body. Allergies such as: indoor and outdoor allergies (can also be called plenty of other things), food allergies, latex allergies, insect allergies, skin allergies and eye allergies. These substances can trigger the symptoms of sneezing, wheezing, coughing and itching. Allergies are not only annoying, but many have been linked to a variety of common and serious respiratory illnesses (such as sinusitis and asthma). Additionally, allergic reactions can be severe and even fatal. However, with proper management and education, allergic diseases can be controlled, and people with allergies can lead normal and productive lives.
Prevention may not always fully protect you against your allergies, but it’s a good place to start. Look around at all the places you go – starting your day at home, going to work, studying at school, traveling outside and going on vacation. There are allergens in every environment, but luckily there are things you can do to prevent your allergies. To avoid the allergy season be sure to find the triggers of your symptoms and avoiding them, and avoid allergen hotspots to name a few.
